Hello Everyone;
Like to announce some of the latest events that have been on to benefit HBOC society and young women. Sept 20/21 was a new view of HBOC society. with a charity fundraiser the night of thee 20th raising $11,000 and a stunning performance of " this is Cancer" to entertain the audiences of 150 gathered at the event.
The next day we had the celebrity speaker Wendy Mesley speak about her experience with cancer, and how she as a reporter seeks out areas of the world's politics and crooked back door agreements that need exposing. She seemed passionate to help our cause and bring more light to a gene mutation that can do so much to help our young and old.
we then broke out into sessions; |I attended the "young women's issues A-Z" starting with a panel of genetic councillor, personal story, menopause clinic, and insurance broker. All very quick in their presentations but info was delivered in print format for those in attendance to make their own inquires with the right resources.
the part 2 of the " young women's issues A-Z" were we had a homeopathic doctor and a fertility Dr. the fertility guy was very interesting, and provided some answers to questions I'd been asking and not getting clear cut answers. I was relived to know that taking IVF drugs to stimulate ovum production is of no danger to me as a BRCA 1 carrier. which opens the channels even wider for child bearing. He also made is clear that anyone who wants to be a parent can be one, it's just the how that changes.
He also spoke about embryo freezing, ovum freezing, and ovarian tissue freezing which is extremely experimental but so neat, a part of the ovary is grown in the forearm, and ovum's can be harvested and with sperm and implantation ....wam....9 months later BABY...!
we then ended the day with our big panel of gyne-oncologist, plastic surgeon, radio-oncologist, and we were supposed to have our general breast surgeon, but due to family emergency was unable to attend but her partner presented on her latest and greatest news for the year.
Time ran a bit short for the panel to receive questions but the day was ended with a personal story form a woman from Calgary that did the surgery but ended up being flat for 1 whole year before reconstruction could be done, she is a triathlete runner and mother of two. Very inspiring.
For more information contact me. If you want to attend next year gear for September 2014 being even bigger and better.
This is for guys and Girls that have tested positive and/or thinking about going for the test. I welcome every one this is a safe and supportive environment...please feel free to ask questions and find hope in numbers
