First off it was a lovely day outside so the escape out into the sun was wonderful.
My physican/ surgeon was very kind, understanding and fast suprisingly. I had to wear that ugly disposible underwear and a hospital gown backwards, but then he measured my chest and breast with and a bunch of templates for skin stretchers and then he basically answered most of my questions so here it goes:
1. how long will the proceedure be?
about 1 hr per breast for Dr. K. Dabs, and he'll take about 1-1/2 hrs per breast so if all is well 5 hrs give or take
2. drains and wound care?
drains yes but they will be blake drains which are stright not like the JP were it is very hard and painfull to remove
3. how much time off will i need?
suggestion was 3 weeks off work, then progression of activity from there, starting with no more than a 4L jug of milk weight to lift and working your way up from there.
4. wich hospital will the surgery be at and will it be a day proceedure?
Misercordia is the best because both of the surgeons work out of that hospital but U of A can be arranged. shoud be in and out in couple days
5. what kind of proceedure will I have?
Nipple sparing mastectomy with immedu=iate reconstruction using skin expander supported by aloderm ( skin that is harvested and sterilized for the use during a surgical proceedure such as this to cradle the skin expander and eventually the implant) the general surgeon ( dr k. dabs) will amke an incison under breast and remove all the breast tisse that she can without impacting the nipple, then dr schambi will place the skin expander under the pectoral mucle and using the aloderm to actas a sling will fill the expander to 500CC or ( 500 ml's of solution) then closer will happen and after 2 weeks the firts fill will happen then another weka nd the third and probably final fill will happen,,thne we allow the area to expand and heal so thta in 2-3 months time the implant can be placed and there is a lot of room for what ever size and shape you want to go with ( fat imjection can be used aswell to fill the spaces). There is implants that are round and implants that have a natural sag look to them... lol why would you want them to sag...oh well to each his own. he did also say that maybe over the next 30 years I'd have to come and get some adjustments, lifts and picks and fills,but other wise it decreases my chances of cancer by 85%...that I like. He also made the comment that breast are like sisteres not twins so don't expect them to be 100% perfect because there are never going to be, even natural breast have different qualities...thought that was a good way to put it. they will look similar but not identical. good to know.
6. when do you think I'll be in for surgery
This shocked me july or sept could be the date, would be 3 ish weeks before i have a date but hope it is july so I can sun tan for 3 weeks... lol
7. breast binder or bra?
at first i will ahve the breast binder but once the drains are out, he has a fitness bra that he likes to have his patients wear and that will be my uniform. I belive it will only be steri strips ( paper tape) that are external to my proceedure, cant remeber now, but drains come out at that firts fill visit. thank god they are straight not come to a wide end...ahhh relife
so this is my story hope it insires and helps, what was supposed to be a 1 and a half year wait is tuning into 6 months...crazy
