We are very excited as we have received a private donation to expand the high risk clinic and it will now be the Allard Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Clinic. It will be at the Lois Hole Center and it will mean that we can work at the same time and place as Val Capstick et al. We will have a liaison with the menopause clinic that is there and with time, we may be able to get psychologist support. The funding of the nurse navigator by the HBOC has huge positive implications for the clinic. We spoke with the managers at the Lois Hole about her and they thought at first that there may be problems with the union - something that Barb and I hadn't considered because that wasn't an issue when she worked with us at 109th! She thinks she has a solution for it. (hiring her parttime as a maternity nurse) and suggested that you and she figure it out together. The nurse's name is Sara Maisonneuve and you would love her.The contact for the RAH that you should talk to would be: Janie Tyrrell: Janie.tyrrell@albertahealthservices.ca
As Dr. Dabbs indicated, we are looking at our options for hiring into this position. Sara is currently working in the private clinic but is not an internal Alberta Health Services employee so we will talk to her about potentially moving into a position here (casual or temporary). We would then have a better chance of hiring her into the position supporting our new clinic. We do have some union constraints so will have to work through the process.
We would be looking at a 0.4 FTE RN position to start with. Our plans are to evolve this clinic and grow it over time which will eventual result in extra resource support.
This is for guys and Girls that have tested positive and/or thinking about going for the test. I welcome every one this is a safe and supportive environment...please feel free to ask questions and find hope in numbers
