I was asked by a young lady:
Now that you know you carry a BRCA 1 gene mutation, do you not feel guilty passing that on to your children?
I was initially struck and taken aback but, i do rememebr thinking that there are so many genetic conditions that do not have preventative measure, start in child hood, or limit independance in early or later life. But I told her also that just like being tested it is very personal choice...i said have you thought of adopting?
she answered that she'd considered but didn't think that would be fair to the child by robbing them of their roots and sometimes that kind of information is not always documented when the child is put up for adoption. another interesting though.
I'd love to here your feedback and thoughts on this. there is no right or wrong answers but maybe one of you has an opitnion or a point of view, please share!!!!!
This is for guys and Girls that have tested positive and/or thinking about going for the test. I welcome every one this is a safe and supportive environment...please feel free to ask questions and find hope in numbers
